Kern River flow map

Public-facing map of Kern River canals, flow points, and diversion infrastructure. Built from USGS, Bureau of Reclamation, and local district data.

A public map of the Kern River system — the canals, diversion points, and flow stations that move water across the southern Central Valley. The data is already public (USGS, Bureau of Reclamation, local districts) but scattered across a dozen formats; this collects it into a single readable view.

Why it matters

Most Central Valley water policy debates are carried out as if everyone involved shares a mental model of the physical water system. They don’t. Making the map visible is a precondition for having an informed conversation.

Status

In progress. Source data and code will be open when it ships.

Working on something in this shape? I'd like to hear about it.
